Hi! Welcome to my newsletter, Lainie’s Five Stars. I'm Lainie, an avid reader who wants to share with you the interesting things that make me feel happy and gleeful, the things that rate 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Five Stars (Would Watch Again).

I'll be posting weekly updates with a curated list of events, notes on things I've been reading, and a selection of shiny things that grabbed my attention (which I think you will enjoy too).

Despite the trashy visuals here (which bring me joy), I am a former art director, a trained graphic designer, and I have many years of experience as an arts and culture worker. Prior to this, I also contributed writing on upcoming arts events to websites like Kakiseni and ArtsEquator. I'm looking to channel some of that work into a weekly publication of events here. If you're not on Facebook or other social media platforms much, I hope you’ll find it a useful guide.

I want this newsletter to evolve into something fun in this corner of Southeast Asia. While there are no current concrete plans for premium content, it is something I plan to do down the road. For now, this newsletter remains free for all to access.

Outside of this newsletter, I am a communications strategist, writer, editor, and advocate for human rights. I have a demanding cat named Grey. I'm terribly introverted and none of that is reflected in how I occupy online spaces (unless you're familiar with introverts, then you’ll know we're the loudest ones online). If you're wondering if I'm that particular lesbian/queer/gay person you saw in other online spaces, then yes, you're probably right.
